Instructions:
1. Prepare the Wonton Filling:
In a medium bowl, combine the mashed avocados, queso fresco, red onion, jalapeño, lime juice, salt, black pepper, and cumin. Mix until well combined.
2. Assemble the Wontons:
Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tsp of the avocado mixture into the center of the wrapper.
Wet the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it into a triangle, and press the edges to seal. For a tighter seal, you can fold the two longer corners of the triangle toward each other and press to secure.
Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
3. Fry the Wontons:
Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the wontons in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
4. Make the Cilantro Lime Crema:
In a small bowl, whisk together the Mexican crema, cilantro, lime juice, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.
5. Serve:
Arrange the fried wontons in a serving bowl or on a platter.
Serve with the cilantro lime crema in a small bowl for dipping.
Notes
For a lighter option, you can bake the wontons at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, brushing them with oil before baking.
Add a pinch of chili powder to the crema for an extra kick.
